According to Harvard Health, there is no evidence to suggest that COVID-19 can be transmitted from clothes to humans. The CDC has confirmed that temperatures above 167 degrees Fahrenheit effectively eliminate seasonal flu. The laundering process, as explained by the CDC, incorporates mechanical, thermal, and chemical factors to provide antimicrobial action. Water dilution and agitation effectively remove a significant amount of microorganisms, while soaps and detergents not only help in suspending soils but also exhibit some microbicidal properties. Hot water plays a crucial role in destroying microorganisms, and both drying and ironing processes contribute to additional microbiocidal action. Dryer temperatures and cycle times are determined based on fabric materials.
